The "Chemistry Olympics" are contests of problem solving, for preparatory and high school students, and are organized by the Portuguese Chemistry Society (SPQ), having as aims:

To make the study and teaching of Chemistry more dynamic in Preparatory and Secondary Schools;;
- To promote the approximation between Preparatory and Secondary Schools and Universities and Technical Institutes;
- To awaken the interest for Chemistry, divulge Chemistry as a science and attract students vocation for scientific and technological careers
The Chemistry Olympics entail several tasks:
- The "Chemistry Olympics +", aimed at secondary school students.
- The "Chemistry Olympics Junior", aimed at preparatory school students. These Olympics are coordinated by the SPQ, but organized at a local level by the Universities which joined the initiative
- The International Olympics, aimed at winners of the " Chemistry Olympics +". These selected students will represent Portugal at the International Chemistry Olympics (IChO) and at the Iberian-American Chemistry Olympics (OIAQ).
